Spider Man Remastered Is Now Available On PC | Steamunlocked

Our team has been working closely with our friends at Insomniac Games over the last year to bring this original Marvel story and PlayStation hit to PC. I'd like to introduce you to some of our Nixxes team members to give you more information about our support for ultra-wide monitors and multiple screen setups*. Hilze Vonck, a dedicated ultra-wide screen gamer, worked on the technical implementation of ultra-wide aspect ratios in Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered for the PC. "I've been using a 21:9 ultra-wide monitor for the past five years." Support for ultra-wide resolutions in games is extremely important to me. We want to give gamers who have spent a lot of money on their setups the opportunity to play the game as well as possible. When you view the game on ultra-wide or triple monitor setups, it really makes a difference. It's incredible to be able to play the game in this manner!"

According to Lead Software Engineer Coen Frauenfelder, one of the reasons for going all-in on ultra-wide monitor support was positive feedback from the gaming community on 21:9 support in other PC games. "We initially planned to support 21:9 screens, but after some internal testing, we decided to go even wider and support 32:9 screens as well as 48:9 for triple monitor setups." The game lends itself well to this. Swinging through the streets of Marvel's New York on an ultra-wide screen creates an entirely new and more immersive experience.

Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered for PC is fully optimised for ultra-wide gaming. Not only the gameplay, but also the numerous cutscenes, have been optimised for panoramic aspect ratios of up to 32:9. Coen discusses the obstacles Nixxes had to overcome in order for this to happen:

"Improving general gameplay with ultra-wide support is relatively simple." The major challenge is to incorporate it into cinematics that are specifically designed by artists to be viewed on 16:9 screens. A lot of things are going on outside of that view area that need to be fixed. Characters can, for example, freeze or vanish unexpectedly. The simple solution would be to include black borders in cut scenes to hide these areas from view on ultra-wide screens, but we wanted PC gamers to be able to fully utilise their screens. Our QA team meticulously went through all of the cut scenes in ultra-wide view, listing all of the details that our engineers and artists needed to change."

Coen emphasises how difficult it was to get everything just right: "We knew it would take a lot of effort to pull off, but our team was passionate and committed to making the most of it." Because of Hilze's enthusiasm, he got to work a lot on the technical aspects of implementing ultra-wide support."

As a result, the cinematics in Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered on PC can be viewed in aspect ratios as high as 32:9. When using even wider aspect ratios, such as triple monitor setups, the outer edges of cut scenes are blurred. This is required to obscure areas of view that would otherwise have visual errors. Hilze worked on this in addition to the engine for ultra-wide support: "That was not an easy feature to implement." It took some time, but I think it turned out really well."

Apart from gameplay and cinematics, Nixxes system engineers ensured that the user interface and menus support wide-screen aspect ratios. When using ultra-wide monitors, you can move the HUD to different positions.
